BLP installs web cam at falcon nesting siteTue, Mar 18, 2008Grand Haven Tribune A break from the winter weather last week allowed for the installation of a high-definition Internet camera at a peregrine falcon nest site in Grand Haven. The nest is located on the Grand Haven Board of Light & Power's tall stack on Harbor Island. The camera will allow real-time viewing of the rare falcons when they return to the power plant site this spring. "Finding the right time to complete this project has been a challenge," said BLP Director of Production Dan Bush. "We really needed to find the right day, a bit warmer and without the wind gusts, to do this job safely." Jesse Morehouse, a technician for Troy Tech Services of Grand Rapids, climbed the stack Friday with BLP employee Chris Morse to reach the wooden next box located about 240 feet above ground. They installed the all-weather camera in the roof of the nest box. For the past seven years, a pair of peregrine falcons has used the nest box in producing a total of 23 chicks. They are generally active there from early spring to late fall. While the site has proven successful for the falcons, it has been a tough environment for electronics, Morehouse said. Two low-resolution cameras previously installed on the stack by a Grand Rapids television station each failed after about a year.
The nest cam is expected to be activated this spring from the BLP's Web site: www.ghblp.org. Acme Mills Troy Tech Services is very professional and knowledgeable of our installed hardware, networks, software, and private VPN. Many issues have been resolved by having Troy Tech’s Help Desk use the remote access ability into our network to solve issues. This not only eliminates extensive downtime in resolving an issue, but saves us money as well by not dispatching a tech to one of our sites. Troy Tech Services is our IT Staff without all of the overhead expense. I strongly recommend Troy Tech Services as the company to meet your IT needs.
Sincerely ABC Warehouse Their work for ABC has ranged from PC repair to entire WAN conversion. They have gone out of their way to make sure their projects or services were conducted on time and in the most efficient manner.
